| The RinkWriter®
"app.pathRW02" Folder |
|
The "app.pathRW02" folder is automatically created by RinkWriter®.
It is created inside of your RinkWriter folder. In this example, it
is created inside of a "Bantam" folder.
|
|
Scorekeepers do not need to know where it is located
and they do not need to know that it exists. Scorekeepers do not have to know anything about the "app.pathRW02" folder.
|
|
However, understanding this folder can make it easier
to import rosters and set up several computers with the same data.
All of your data is stored in the "app.pathRW02" folder.
|
The RinkWriter software
automatically creates its own "app.pathRW02" folder inside
of the hosting folder.
You can
have more than one set of data if
you have more than one RinkWriter folder on your desktop, . Each RinkWriter folder has its
own set of data.
|
|
The
"app.pathRW02" folder...
|
|
The folder's name is derived from application
path RinkWriter 2002. |
| The "app.pathRW02" folder is always
created inside of the folder that contains the application
(RinkWriter.exe)...thus
the name. You may have more than one
RinkWriter folder. Any or all of the contents of the "app.pathRW02" folder
may be copied and pasted to other computers. |
| Each app.pathRW02 folder
is automatically divided into two folders...Game
and Teams |
 |
| The Game folder
contains all of the data files which have been saved for the current game. This folder contains the names of the
teams, officials, and coaches, and game data.
|
| The Teams folder
is subdivided into 20 folders...one for each level of play...
including: high school, bantam, peewee, squirt, collegiate, juniors,
U14, other, adult, etc.
|
 |
| Each folder, such as the high school (HS)
folder, contains data files. Each data file holds a team roster.
|
 |
| Each file name must have an exact format... which can be read and edited
by the RinkWriter software. Also, the format of each player's name within
each data file must also fit the exact spacing requirements. The data files can be opened with notepad or
an excel spreadsheet (and others). To assure accurate formatting,
it is highly recommended that your data files be created and edited from within the RinkWriter software.
|
| Some hockey
communities share a single rink-side computer for various
levels of play. Some have been using a donated desktop
computer and monitor... which remains at rink-side. Sometimes,
they create a portable luggage kit. |
| All
scorekeepers can
use the same RinkWriter folder
on the same desktop, but for convenience and data
security, some communities have
opted to use multiple folders on one computer. They provide
a folder for each individual teams or each level of play.
Folders can be named after a scorekeeper or for a single tournament.
If consecutive games are being played at a rink,
separate folders could be created for each game. This would allow you to set up
all of the games before the day begins. |
Sample folders: |
| Each folder must contain a copy of the RinkWriter
.exe software. |
 |
| The first time you run the software from inside of
each folder an app.pathRW02 folder will be created inside of the
RinkWriter folder. Each folder will then have its own set of data
(app.pathRW02 folder). |
| Some scorekeepers may wish to maintain their own data
files, and some scorekeepers may wish to carry their data with
them to another computer. An entire folder may be copied and
pasted to and from the desktop. If RinkWriter fails to run on
your computer, you may need to install the software by running the Option 2
setup that came with your
software. |
| Any one of the desktop folders (data and software) can be
saved on a USB Flash Drive (recommend 4 GB or more). From
there, it can be transferred to another computer. RinkWriter can be run from within the flash drive, but
it will run slower. |
| Flash Drives: |
 |
| A scorekeeper could potentially have
his/her game or games setup and ready to go before arriving at the arena. |
| Updating and Entering
Rosters (Being Tested): |
| Rosters are normally entered (typed) within
the Rosters window. |
| All of your rosters can be entered at
the beginning of the season...once entered...they remain available
until needed. |
| Rosters can be copied and pasted into other
computers, but if available, they can be download from the
Internet...directly into your "app.pathRW02" folder. |
| A league or an association could make it possible
for you to download your rosters from
the Internet. |
| RinkWriter is currently testing this
option. |
Rosters could be entered and uploaded
to the Internet by a league/district representative...or...
- Each team could e-mail its RinkWriter®
compatible roster to a
league representative who could then upload it
to the Internet for all scorekeepers.
- A league could provide a password protected
folder for teams to upload and/or update their rosters.
|
| RinkWriter®
can be used by a scorekeeper without ever knowing anything about the "app.pathRW02" folder,
but it could be helpful if someone in your hockey community knows
about it and knows how
to import rosters.

question, or you would like to submit a new roster... or update your current roster
